Statistics show one in four people in the UK will experience some kind of mental health problem each year. Business owners therefore have an important role in helping people open up about mental health in the workplace. DGP Logistics has recently completed a two day training course for a number of its employees including Directors, Contract Managers, Training Manager, HR Manager and various other staff.
Run by Ryan Ridgway, MD at Mind Health Solutions – In association with Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England, the course covered all known mental health conditions and how to address various situations. “It gave me far better awareness of mental health issues, how to identify the signs and how to encourage a colleague to get support,” said David Holdstock, DGP’s HR Manager. Louise Down, DGP’s Commercial Manager, previously suffered with mental health and was keen to attend the course.
Louise said, “Staff on-site may not always want to talk to a regular colleague, so having the training and being a designated Mental Health First Aider, gives them the opportunity to speak to someone who they know will listen and give qualified support and advice.”
