Mental Health Awareness –In 2018, there were 6,507 suicides in the UK, of which 4,903 were men*.
In the UK, men remain three times more likely to take their own lives than women. There has been a significant increase in suicide in the UK, the first time since 2013 – this appears to be driven by an increase in the male suicide rate.
The construction industry is far more vulnerable, with rates 3 times the national average. It is important that the construction industry continues to build a supportive working culture where people feel comfortable to talk about situations they are dealing with.
Suicide is not inevitable; it is preventable. We can all choose to make a difference by making lives more liveable for those who struggle to cope.
